I had the pleasure of meeting Annie, her big sister Maggie and mom and dad on a very wintery Saturday morning. While the snow covered the ground outside and the icicles clung strong to every nook and cranny possible, we stayed warm and cozy inside getting to know each other. Annie made things pretty easy for us by spending part of our time awake and bright eyed and then snuggling to sleep for the rest. Maggie shared with me her very pink kitchen and all the things she likes to do. To me these images are magical because it's such a fleeting stage. Newborns are my absolute favorite sessions.
Baby Fraser came into the world around Thanksgiving and just turned a month old when we got together for our session. The snow the weekend before made us hold off for another week, but it turned out great because Fraser was awake for most of the session. I love it when we get these big beautiful eyes so full of personality. He also has quite a head of hair. Beth and I did a maternity session awhile back which turned out beautifully. It's a great feeling to be able to give someone something of so much personal value. With newborns it's amazing, because each week they are changing and you just cannot go back. Beth and Ian have another son as well and they are very sweet parents. Ian was very concerned about Fraser during the session and making sure he was comfortable and warm. He had the great idea of warming up towels in the dryer to lie on the baby inbetween shots. I'm going to use this little trick often. Thanks Ian.
This beautiful little boy could not have been more patient with us. You never know with babies what kind of moods you are going to get. They often change very quickly as well, so you just go with the flow and not force anything and great stuff happens. It was chilly, but with the sun out we managed to grab some stuff in the backyard. I'm so glad we did, because this first one is just one of my favorites. We oohed and awwed when put him down in the leaves and saw this expression. We knew it was a keeper. It was Dad's idea to give him a bath just as we were wrapping up. I had to just pick a couple from bathtime because so many of them are precious. At first he didn't like the water at all - and he let us know about it. But after Dad's hands warmed up and the water cooled down, he was totally loving it. Joe and Melissa are such natural first time parents; as are Kevin and Darci from the previous post. It's so nice to see how calm and relaxed they are around their babies and how soothed that makes them feel. I told Melissa she should become a baby whisperer, because she just had to shh shh Owen and he would become content again. It was great chatting with you both as well! Looking forward to more Owen sessions this year.
We were so lucky that this little one was awake almost the entire session ~ those eyes are full of so much personality! We kept the house nice and warm and it did the trick to keep him relaxed and comfortable. Grant is just 9 days old here and was born on my birthday. We did his mama's maternity session just awhile back too. If you scroll down a couple of pages you will see her. She's the Itty Bitty Baby Bump. This was no Itty Bitty Baby though, weighing in at 8lbs 1oz. You never would've guessed by looking at her. Darci and Kevin were so tired but were real troopers letting me stay and do my thing. I LOVE newborn sessions, so if you are expecting please give me a holler. We've got two more sessions booked so keep an eye on little Grant growing up this year.
